Perhaps the most site-specific design for the firm to date. The site is nearly two acres and is covered in boulders. The bulk of the building envelope is recessed from the surrounding grade. A grid of 23′ was used to place structural columns that completely avoid all site boulders. With the exception of the guest house, garage, and game room, the entire house is elevated above the boulders including the swimming pool that sits on 3 columns. Guests arriving park at the base of the pool and walk under the home through a sculpture and boulder garden, walk up a cantilevered stair, and arrive at the front door on the second level at the rear of the home. The home borders thousands of acres of dedicated open space and has incredible city-light views. A featured home for the local AIA home tour.
